Home Office Setup | DIY Decor

After working from home for a year due to the pandemic I finally have an at home office setup!

It's crazy to think it's been a whole year now since the world shutdown and everything as we knew it changed. This whole time I've been working from home either from the dining room table or the living room couch. But now that my husband has given up my old desk I figured it was about time I made myself an office space. Especially since I don't know exactly how much longer I'll be working from home.

Over the summer I painted this DIY mud cloth accent wall in our spare bedroom. Since we still haven’t done anything with this room yet I figured it would be the perfect space for my office.

The first thing I did of course was bring my old desk up from the basement.

It definitely needed some cleaning up and a little repair work in the corner but I still love the look and function it (sold at Target).

Since I didn’t want to spend a lot of money on this space I decided that rather than buying new items for the room I would just flip and DIY a couple of the office accessories I already had on hand.

I started with this set of binder clips.

I just simply took everything apart and cleaned it.

I then used some spray paint I already had on hand to paint the bottom and top as well as a few of the clips.

And here’s how it turned out!

My second project was this pencil holder.

While I loved the shape of it I no longer liked the design and didn’t think it would go well with our accent wall.

But rather than just throwing it out I decided to paint the inside black…

…and then used some of the marble contact paper I had to cover the outside.

The contact paper is super easy to use. I just simply smoothed it out as I wrapped it around and then cut a slit at each corner so that I could fold it over on either side.

And then because I’m such a perfectionist I cut out a small hexagon and fully covered the bottom.

And here’s how it turned out!

I then just added in this little desktop calendar (Target).

Then when it came to picking out a chair (which was my one big expense for this room) I at first chose this more stylish one because of the look of it.

But after sitting in it I decided to go with a more practical executive style chair that still had the overall look I was going for.

And lastly I hung up this small white board for any notes or memos I may need for work.

Here’s how the whole space turned out…

I hope this at home office inspires you to create a work space of your own if you haven’t already or update your current space.

Let me know in the comments below your favorite part of the room.
