Master Bedroom Makeover

Master Bedroom Makeover

After months and months of planning and quite a few DIYs, I am so excited to finally reveal my master bedroom makeover!

This was my first full room makeover and I’m in love!

We moved into our home a year ago this month and this was the first room I was able to fully make our own.

Here’s a look at what I started with:

By drawing some inspiration from Pinterest I was able to narrow down just what I wanted for this room.

I knew that I wanted a dark accent wall and plug-in wall scones.

I also knew that I had to use all of our existing furniture as I could not afford to replace what we had.

Our bed frame was the one piece that I wanted to work around. We had bought it just a year ago when upgrading to a king size bed and I still loved it!

So in order to make our other furniture pieces work I knew I would have to do a little painting and possibly some staining.

I started out with our dressers.

I have had them for years as they were hand-me-downs from my parents. I had painted them gray when I was still living at home but they were definitely in need of a face lift.

So to keep them in coordination with our bed frame I decided to paint them black and add gold handles.

I also decided to sand and stain our nightstands.

These I had purchased when moving into my first apartment.

They definitely fit with the bed frame because of the black iron legs but needed a bit of an update.

Once all the furniture was figured out it was time to pick my paint colors.

I had been loving a lot of the colors by Behr when looking for a paint online and ultimately decided to go with Celestial Glow for the majority of the room and Graphic Charcoal for my accent wall.

Picking the wall for the accent color was easy as there is only one large wall in the room. The other walls either have a window or are entirely made up of closets.

Though most of the rooms I had pinned on Pinterest had the bed against the accent wall I knew I wanted to leave the bed against the one window as this location offers the most symmetry on both sides of the bed.

I also swapped out the dark gray blackout curtains we had before for a lighter gray set.

This was because I knew the detail of the black bed frame would stand out more against a light color.

Also to add to the symmetry of the bed I decided to add a set of plug-in wall scones to hang on either side.

This not only added symmetry, it also freed up space on the nightstands making them seem less crowded.

As far as what would go against the accent wall I decided to hang this large gold round mirror over my dresser.

I knew the gold frame of the mirror would pop out best on this dark gray wall.

I also hung these small macrame wall hangings I made, again knowing they would stand out best against a dark wall.

As you can see I hung these diagonally with the curve of the ceiling.

This works with the direction of the wall rather than working against it.

And on the opposite wall I also hung these shelves diagonally, again to keep symmetry on either side of the bed.

I then propped up the art I had made on the other dresser, hung this macrame plant hanger and balanced it out with these gold lanterns I had from our wedding.

And lastly I just added a few finishing touches like these throw pillows and area rug.

And that finished off the room!
