DIY Tassel Wall Hanging

DIY Tassel Wall Hanging

After seeing these tassel wall hangings all over Pinterest, I decided to try to make one myself. Here’s how it’s done.

Supplies:

  • Wooden dowel (I used a 12 inch dowel I bought at Michael’s)

  • Seven wooden beads (You can buy these at any craft store or Amazon)

  • Black acrylic paint and small paint brush (optional)

  • Yarn (I used black)

  • Scissors

  • Tape

If you choose to make your tassel wall hanging all black like mine, you’ll want to start by painting your wooden dowel and wooden beads.

The next step is to make the tassels.

To make the tassels start by wrapping the yarn around your four fingers about twelve times.

Once you’ve wrapped the yarn around twelve times you can cut the end and slip it off your fingers.

Then cut a strand of yarn about the length you would want your tassel hanging and tie one end around the top of your loops.

You can then cut the tail end off of the strand you tied on.

You’ll then pinch where you created your knot and brush the loops downward.

(Note: The end of the strand used to hang the tassel is not shown in the pictures below.)

Then cut another strand of yarn about twice the length of the tassel and tie that around the top of the loops to create the head of the tassel.

You’ll then cut the ends of the loops and trim the tassel to your desired length.

(Note: With each tassel try to match the same length)

Once all seven tassels are made you will then attach a bead to each one.

First create a knot in the strand where you would like your bead to hang. Tie this knot about three times to ensure the bead will not fall through.

(Note: To get all the beads the same length away from each tassel simply line up your strands.)

To get the bead on to your strand you can either use a needle or like in my case tape.

In using tape you simply wrap it around the end of the strand and push it through the bead.

Once all seven tassels are made with the beads attached, line them up how you would like them hung to the dowel.

Then tie each one to the dowel and cut the ends off.

You’ll then attach a final strand to each end of the dowel to hang.
